18 feels terribly old. It’s marking a new chapter again in my life. Much to my anticipation of turning 18, the downfall exists. Why, you may ask? Having to celebrate it in an unfamiliar place, not in hometown is nothing close to a celebration. But, I’m blessed with so many angels who love me (you know who you are) who wished me endlessly when clock strikes 12AM that morning. I figured out then that I’m LOVABLE. Perhaps not. Still, it’s good knowing that my old good friends and new ones remembered 18th of September.
The rest of the day was celebrated in the bus journey back to Kuching. NYDP wished me happy birthday which awed me. How the heck does he know my birthday?! I left it up to your imagination. The most memorable one is that particular someone singing happy birthday to me over the phone exactly at 12AM. I was deeply touched – the speechless part is going on – and thanked him over and over on the phone. The sincerity in his voice is just amazing :) That’s why lah saya suka anak itik.
During these 17 years before turning 18, it has been an incredible ride.
- Became a leader in school in primary school and secondary school. The trust that I gained from various people is honourable.
- Passed my public examinations with satisfying results. I couldn’t ask for more since that was the best that I can do.
- Found my talent in computing and designing.
- Gained working experience for a couple of months and that first feeling of having salary.
- Got myself a legal driving license after waited for so many years.
- Fell in love with someone, been in a relationship for almost 3 years and it ended for good. Happy, hurt, disappointed. They don’t mix well.
- Lost in going forward with my studies. God made his plan and I’m taking TESL.
- Set foot in Miri for the first time. It then marked my first part in life of being away from my family who are residing in Kuching.
- I learn about the true colour of people around me. Don’t judge a book by its cover is so TRUE.
- Separated with my sister at last in tertiary education. She’s in UiTM and I’m in IPS.
Maturity is something I’ve acquired indirectly.
Upon reaching Kuching on the 19th, I’m blessed once again with a family gathering for our birthday. Dad wished me happy birthday through e-mail (I would never expect him to do so). A friend of mine bought me a blueberry cake for the gathering. He remembered exactly my favourite choice of flavour. I’m just thankful that I have awesome people around me who care about me effortlessly.
We may not look alike but strength, stubbornness and similarity combined, we’re twins after all :)
Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. Be it in the bus or Facebook, I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you guys :) Thank you for brightening up my day.
