THIS. IS. JUST. TO. DIE. FOR.
I like romance movie. Because it makes my heart tingle and really warm. This one really makes my day after attempting to watch it for so many times. Thank you SIBLINGS! =)
This edgy adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" surfaces about inner beauty and what love truly means. That love does not count physical look but everything on the inside. Kyle was transformed into a duckling after he mistreated a witch in his high school just because she's ugly and weird. The only thing that can turn him back into normal is to have someone to say "I Love You", accepting him the way he is.
With all the tattoos marking and ugly scars, he was not the popular guy he used to be. His father placed him in another house with a housemaid and a blind teacher. He then learned to see the world differently. One day, he saved a girl from being shot. This girl turned out to be a very unique person, unlike those girls he met before. He soon fell for her and built a rose garden. Is she the one for him? Will she utter the three most important words for him?
The thing I like about this movie is that it's so modern and yet, the all-time classiness of "Beauty and the Beast" is inevitable. It is adapted from a novel of the same name. On selection of casts, well I must say Alex Pettyfer suits the character. He is just SO HOT. I was squealing all the time. Vanessa Hudgens? She's okay (you should know that I don't like her since HSM), could be better if she can control her facial expression. Mary-Kate Olsen. EPIC. I loved her gothic-emo outfits with that hairdo. Seriously, I was doubting her acting skills but stupefied immediately. Standing ovation. Save the best for last, Neil Patrick Harris. He's just the BOMB. Rad. Despite all those stressful love scenes, his comedic timing is perfect. Must be the effect from "How I Met Your Mother". His quoted sentence, "At 15, my friends are losing their virginity. I lost my sight." Lol. He's just so funny. Had the best laugh for this week =)
Being a sucker at everything romance, I just couldn't stop grinning at Kyle's longhand letter. May be corny to some but hey, that is what we're losing these days. The essence of writing a letter to your loved one and not just posting on each other wall. I'm head over heels for whatever fantasy it holds for a normal girl like me. The letters, rose garden (SO BEAUTIFUL!), gifts (to die for: Bvlgari, to laugh for : sweets) and strolling at the lakeside. We all used to have that sort of fantasy don't we? ;)
The downside of this movie is that it is too rushing. I have no idea when actually Lindy fell for Kyle. Very poorly collected scenes, this movie has no climax. I have not read the book yet so maybe this movie does not really depict the scenes in the book. I must say, it is more "Beast" than "Beauty". Hudgens' acting is too flat. I couldn't really feel the intensity between them. Love is not just about kissing and hugging, it has more to that. Like I mentioned, the movie has too many unwanted scenes that they can actually take them off from the movie.
Overall, 6.5/10. Considerably good if you're patient.
